Applying for a job is a challenge in itself. You surf the internet for job openings, you submit your resume online and then wait for their reply. Sometimes they ask you to come in person for an interview. When you get to the office, you wait in line with a couple of hopeful applicants. You need a particular edge to win this challenge.
I think it is safe to assume that almost everyone have heard the phrase “first impressions last”. That is true in almost all cases. Let’s say you’re applying for an IT job. First of all, you should be dressed smart. After all, IT specialists require people with certain skills and intelligence. You are an IT specialist. You are smart when it comes to computers, networking, and trouble shooting.
The second thing that you should show is how good you are with communicating your ideas. Communication skills are very important in this field of work. Not only would you be communicating with your fellow employees in your native tongue, you will also probably be talking to clients from other countries. So, polish your English skills while there is still time. Stop watching the local soap opera. Start watching HBO. If you speak really good English and you sound like you know what you’re talking about, then they get the impression that you really are smart.
It doesn’t help your application process if you know a lot about being an IT specialist but can’t communicate properly.
So now let us assume that because you dressed smart and spoke really well, they decided to accept you for training. The next thing that you should always be aware of is the time. Always be punctual and never be late. This shows how dedicated you are towards the job.
Now that they know that you are smart, well spoken, and dedicated, their next step is to evaluate you. And if you get good ratings in your evaluation, most probably you are the person that will get the job. Congratulations!
